This site is meant to be a place for lovers of Estill County history to learn and contribute to an online digital repository of our community's story.
What do I need to know?
It is important to remember that we want to tell the truth. If you have documentation to prove a claim you post on this site, upload a picture or include a citation. If you're sharing a story from someone, put it in quotes and attribute the story to the storyteller. If you don't know an exact date, just say "circa". Please only share media (pictures, videos, documents) if you have permission to do so.
How do I use this thing?
First off, you'll need to make an account to make any edits. When you register, be sure to check your junk mail for any emails from the site! Requiring an account not only helps you to track what changes you've made, but it also helps us to keep track of any trouble makers and revoke their access if they try to ruin this for everyone.
This platform is called a wiki (the most well known is Wikipedia). It is designed to accept edits from anyone who would like to contribute. It belongs to us all. That said, it takes a little getting used to. Make sure to access the "Help" dropdown box near the top of the Edit page for a "cheat sheet" on how to make the editor do what you want. There is also a link to the left of this page that says "Help about MediaWiki". That leads you to a tutorial page to show you how to do just about anything on this site. Many of the basic editing information can be found on the help page and clicking on "formatting."
