This attribute controls the content of the description and og:description elements. | "AMBROSE M. SCRIVNER, sheriff of Estill County, Ky., was born in said county, October 14, 1841. His father, Jonathan Scrivner, was born in the same county, September 12, 1812. He was reared on the farm, the pursuits of which he followed all his life, and was regarded as a prosperous man and a good citizen. He was for many years before his death an active member of the Station Camp Baptist Church, and a firm supporter of its principles. He was a son of Joseph Scrivner, of North Carolina, who came to Kentucky about 1812 and settled in Estill County, where he engaged in farming. He was a very enterprising citizen, and was about the second or third sheriff of Estill County. He was subsequently elected to the State Legislature. About 1835 Jonathan Scrivner married Miss Mollie Park, a daughter of Ebenezer Park, a native of North Carolina, who came to Kentucky at an early date and settled in Estill County. He was a well-to-do farmer all his life, and was at one time a member of the Legislature from Estill County. To Jonathan and Mollie Scrivner were born two daughters and four sons, viz: Jemima, Thomas J., William M., Ambrose M., John W. and Ketura E. William M. and John W. died in the Federal army. Ambrose M. Scrivner, the fourth child, was brought up on the farm, and received his education at the common schools. He has lived on a farm his whole life, engaged in agricultural pursuits. He now owns a fine farm of 4(X) acres in Estill County, and is regarded as one of the best and most enterprising men of that county. In 1862 he enlisted in the Federal army as Commissary Sergeant of Company E, of the Fourteenth Kentucky Cavalry, under Col. H. C. Lilly, and served his term of enlistment (twelve months), returning home in 1863. In 1884 he was elected, on the Democratic ticket, sheriff of his county, and re-elected in 1886. October 28, 1864, he married Miss Susan E. Moore, a daughter of Lewis Moore, of Estill County. They are the parents of five daughters and four sons, viz: Tabitha L., Millie, Thomas J., Millard, Harry, Hallie, Kate, Ambose M., Jr., and Bettie S.
