"FBLA Capturing Success was the State Future Business Leaders of America theme for the 2011-2012 school year. Not only did the local chapter capture success by being awarded several recognitions at the state leadership conference, several students did as well. Twenty-six eager members loaded the bus on Monday, April 23, as they headed to Louisville to compete, campaign, vote, and work. They were greeted on arrival by our two state officers, Mckenna Clowers and Abby Witt, who had arrived in Louisville on Saturday to assist the rest of the state officer team in preparing for the conference. Kent Julian, a motivational speaker from Georgia, inspired the students as he spoke at the Opening Session about how their responses to events determine the outcomes. He was also on hand for workshops for the students on Tuesday. Dakota Halbert gave Abby Witt’s nomination speech at the Campaign Rally for a second term as FBLA State President.

From there, members spent the next two days campaigning, competing, and celebrating successes. Our local chapter received the Commonwealth Award of Merit and was recognized for completing the State Project, participating in Unite to Read, and working to achieve the State Goals. The chapter was also presented a certificate for top five in the State for the most Professional Division members. Several students were called to the stage for placing in their events. Receiving trophies were Taylor Adams, Tanner Chaney, Josie Farmer, Kayla Fowler (two events), Kevin Haney, Mary Plowman, Sydney Richardson, and Kayla Wolpert. Kayla Fowler and Sydney Richardson will be traveling to San Antonio in June for national competition. They will be joining Abby Witt as she begins her second term as state president and Region 6 President, Taylor Isfort is representing Estill County High School and Kentucky FBLA."
