"The Estill County Middle School Science Olympiad teams placed 13th (Blue Team) and 17th (Red Team) out of 24 teams at the state competition in Bowling Green April 21st. The two teams had 11 students each who covered all 23 events and did a great job considering the tough opponents. Following are some of the results. Caleb Stickney and Hunter Smith first in Meteorology. Chance Hall and Jacob Bucher first in Storm the Castle. Caleb Stickney and Sahara Hardy second in Rocks and Minerals. Jacob Bucher and Eli Dixon third in Mission Possible. Caleb Stickney and Ethan Lynch fourth in Forestry. Caleb Stickney and Caleb Larrison fourth in Awesome Aquifer. Tyler Howell and Caleb Larrison fifth in Mission Possible. The first, second, and third place winners received a medal and the other winners helped the teams secure their overall standings which were notable accomplishments for state level competition. Congratulations to each team member and Coaches Lois Webster and Linda BelCher for a successful season. Thanks also to the volunteers and staff who helped and to the administrators and school board for their support. Science Olympiad is a non-profit national organization emphasizing teamwork, problem solving, and hands-on approaches to science. You may learn more at the website: www.soinc.org."
