Park L. Hume

"PARK L. HUME, one of Irvine's most prosperous and enterprising men, was born in Estill County, Ky., July 10, 1853. His father, William L. Hume, was born in Madison County, Ky., in 1827. He was an extensive farmer and trader all his life, and was always regarded as a very industrious and prosperous man. About 1852 he moved to Estill County, where he lived until his death, which occurred in 1873. He was a son of Larkin Hume, a Virginian, who settled in Madison County, Ky., at an early date, and was engaged in agricultural pursuits all his life. William L. Hume was married September 2, 1852, to Miss Sallie A. Park, a daughter of Jonah and Malinda (McMonogle) Park, of Estill County; she was born July 29, 1831. To their union were born five children, all of whom are living, viz: Park L., William G., Thomas J., Joe C. and Lula F. Park I, Hume was reared on the farm and educated in the common schools of his native county. He followed farming until 1879, when he engaged in the livery business at Irvine, in which he has since been engaged very successfully. Mr. Hume is a social and accommodating citizen, and a friend of nearly all in his and adjoining counties. He is now acting as police judge of Irvine, and is a man well qualified for the position, as his decisions are always in accordance with the law. November 26, 1874, he married Miss Bettie Shepard, a highly esteemed lady of Irvine, and a daughter of Andrew and Cynthia (Moore) Shepard, whose names are familiar to all Estill County. One daughter has blessed this union, Mamie P. Mr. Hume is a member of the Christian Church, and is a stanch Democrat." - Kentucky: A History Of The State, by William Henry Perrin, J. H. Battle, G. C.
