Lawyer; U.S. Representative from Kentucky, 1925-29, 1931-49 (7th District 1925-29, 1931-33, at-large 1933-35, 6th District 1935-49); defeated, 1928; U.S. Senator from Kentucky, 1949-51; died in office 1951. Disciples of Christ. Member, American Bar Association; Alpha Delta Sigma; Phi Alpha Delta; Tau Kappa Alpha; Order of the Coif; Freemasons; Shriners; Odd Fellows; Elks; Woodmen; Maccabees; Sons of Confederate Veterans. Died, from injuries received in an automobile accident, in Bethesda Naval Hospital, Bethesda, Montgomery County, Md., March 8, 1951 (age 55 years, 358 days).
